SUMAR 2022
ARTIST: MARIANA SILVA VARELA
ARTIST: JAKOB KRAJCIK
PLACE: LÅNGHOLMSPARKEN'S PLAYGROUND
PARTNER: CITY OF STOCKHOLM
The sculpture group Sumar is connected to the celebration of Midsummer in different cultures. Each work of textile and rope has an individual character and symbolizes one of the four basic elements: earth, air, fire or water. Small prisms and pieces of Plexiglas, attached to the works, refract the light. Thin metal rods and other objects in varying materials move in the wind and create a play of sound.
The sculptures, suspended on poles more than 3 meters above the ground, also include a sound piece – a song in an invented language, which through the voice conveys the feeling of longing for sea, sun and summer.

LYCKSELE 2019
5 textile works / Bårtäcken / Palls for the Repatriation Ceremony in Lycksele. Repatriation is a term used when museums or other institutions return an object or human remains from their collections or from their administration, to the place where they belong. Repatriation as a phenomenon is part of the great deal that Europe's countries are making with their colonial past. When the former colonial powers in Europe wrote about their agreements with the colonized countries around the world and tried to give them back their self-determination, a great discussion started in the scientific fields that arose during colonialism.
